THE IMPORTANCE OF A BASIC SKIN CARE ROUTINE

Let’s be honest, youthful looking skin doesn’t happen overnight. Your skincare routine today will contribute to the health & beauty of your skin even 30 years from now. Personalize a skincare routine, follow it daily and you will reap the benefits! Here are 10 things that prematurely age skin…

Sun:

Sunscreen is a must. Unprotected skin is at increased risk of skin cancer, actinic keratosis, hyper pigmentation, accelerated collagen loss, early wrinkling and sagging.

Environment:

Washing your face twice a day and using an antioxidant with Vitamin C are excellent ways to control bacteria, neutralize oxidation, prevent free radical damage.

Not Investing in Your Skin:

Skin problems like UV aging, hyper pigmentation, enlarged pores and other skin issues can be improved and prevented with a consistent skincare routine. Prevention is easier and cheaper than the expense of corrective procedures.

Heavy Handedness:

When applying products, always use gentle upwards & outwards movements and apply from thinnest texture (serums) to thickest texture (creams). Always finish with sunscreen and never stretch & pull at your skin as it will break down elasticity.

Self-Diagnosing:

If you have a counter covered with treatment products but your acne just gets worse, it might be Rosacea. Self-Diagnosing can lead to improper use of products which can lead to sensitized skin and unresolved conditions. When in doubt, get help from a professional.

Sleeping on Your Face:

Sleeping face down or on your side for long periods at a time causes friction and pressure on the skin leading to deep wrinkles and creases. Sleeping face down can also lead to breakouts.

Bad Habits:

Never go to bed without washing your face! Make-up, sunscreen, dirt, pollution & oils cling to the skin and settle in pores, creating a recipe for premature aging and clogged pores!

Not Moisturizing:

Even if you have oily skin, a lightweight moisturizer is essential for maintaining barrier function which is the skins natural defense mechanism against pathogens, disease, and pre-mature aging.
